Dr. K. Ramanjaneyulu – Professor

K. Ramanjaneyulu was Graduated from the Regional Engineering College, Warangal (now NIT, Warangal), and obtained postgraduate degree in Structural Engineering from Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru. He was awarded doctoral degree in Structural Engineering for the thesis entiltted “Buckling behaviour of wind loaded cooling tower shells” by Indian Institute of Technology Madras in 1992. He joined CSIR-Structural Engineering Research Centre, Chennai, as a scientist in 1989 and rose to the position of chief scientist in 2011. He was head of Advanced Concrete Testing & Evaluation Laboratory at CSIR-SERC for 9 years. He assumedthe additional charge as Director, CSIR-SERC and Coordinating Director, CSIR Madras Complex, on 30thDecember 2020. On 30th April 2021, he retired from CSIR-Structural Engineering Research Centre, Chennai, on superannuation. He had 32 years of research experience to his credit. He was also an honorary professor of Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research (AcSIR), from 27-2-2014 to 30-4-2021. He guided two doctoral students during this period and were awarded Ph.D. degrees. He was also a co-guide of two Ph.D Scholars, – one was awarded Ph.D by Annamalai University, Chidambaram, and the other was awarded Ph.D. by Anna University, Chennai. He is a Fellow of The Institution of Engineers (I) and life member of professional bodies, such as ICI and IIBE. He had published more than 100 papers in indexed international and National journals, around 100 papers in conferences/seminars and 190 technical reports based on the in-house R&D and externally funded research projects.
His areas of expertise include, reinforced and prestressed concrete structures, bridge engineering, finite element analysis, plates and shells, earthquake engineering, analysis and design of special structures such as, bridges and Cooling tower shells, blast resistant design of structures, Structural health assessment and upgradation of bridges, and repair and rehabilitation of structures.
He was awarded DAAD fellowship for the year 1993-94 to carry out research at Ruhr University, Bochum, Germany; and Raman Research Fellowship for the year 2006-07 to carry out research at University of Stuttgart, Germany. The papers authored by him were awarded i)The George Oomen Memorial prize by the Institution of Engineers during the year 2006, ii) Sir Arthur Cotton Memorial prize by the Institution of Engineers during the year 2007 iii) ING-IABSE Medals for the years 2005 and 2006 iv) Dr. M. Ramaiah Prize for best technical paper for the years 2002-03, 2006-07, 2008-09, 2010-11, 2011-12, 2013-14 v) The Suchit Kumar Ghosh memorial Prize by the Institution of Engineers during the year 2009 and vi) Dr. Jai Krishna Prize by the Institution of Engineers during the year 2013.
He had served as member of code committees of the Bureau of Indian Standards. He was the leader of an international collaborative project on “Development of fatigue and seismic resistant design and management of concrete structures”, between CSIR-SERC, Chennai, and ILEK, University of Stuttgart, Germany, during 2006-2009. He was the nodal officer for twelfth five-year plan network project entitled “Innovative Technologies for Health Assessment and Damage Mitigation of Structures (I-HEAL)”, by partnering with other CSIR Laboratories of Engineering Cluster.
Currently, he is a professor in the Department of Civil Engineering, Sri Sivasubramania Nadar College of Engineering, Kalavakkam.
