Summer Internship
Duration: 8 weeks after the first year
Typical period: June–July
The Summer Internship provides students with initial, immersive exposure to industry settings and enables them to apply their first-year learnings in a professional environment. This experience encourages students to take on meaningful projects, gain insight into various roles, and enhance their understanding of workplace dynamics.
Key Aspects:
- Weekly Reporting and Evaluation: Students are required to submit weekly reports, capturing key achievements, challenges, and learning outcomes. These reports are reviewed by both company managers and SSN professors, who collaboratively evaluate students’ progress, provide constructive feedback, and guide them toward skill development.
- Performance Monitoring and Guidance: Company mentors and institutional faculty work closely to monitor student performance, identifying areas of improvement and encouraging proactive engagement. This collaborative evaluation model ensures that students receive consistent feedback and remain focused on their learning objectives.
- Professional Report: The internship concludes with a comprehensive report that summarizes the student’s contributions and learning outcomes. This report, shared with both the company and SSN, highlights the student’s ability to apply theoretical concepts to practical scenarios.
Through this structured evaluation approach, students gain valuable professional exposure, strengthen their problem-solving skills, and increase their confidence as they tackle real-life challenges.
Hybrid Internship
Duration: 3 to 6 months following the summer internship
Mode: Hybrid (2–3 days onsite with the company, balance days on campus)
The Hybrid Internship extends the Summer Internship into a flexible, long-term work-study model, allowing students to balance academic commitments while engaging in hands-on industry projects. This internship is initiated at the request of companies, who recognize the value of engaging students over a longer period and investing in their development for potential full-time roles.
Key Features:
- Extended Company Engagement: Companies value the Hybrid Internship as it provides a longer timeframe to engage with students, assess their skills, and benefit from their contributions. The extended period allows for more complex projects and a deeper understanding of organizational workflows.
- Pathway to Pre-Placement Offers (PPOs): The hybrid model creates an ideal setup for companies to assess students’ capabilities in real-world contexts, making it a preferred pathway for awarding PPOs. Students who perform exceptionally well are often given an opportunity to secure a job offer, thus bridging their transition from intern to full-time employee.
- Industry-Ready Resources: By the end of the internship window, students emerge as industry-ready resources. They gain hands-on experience in their field, making them well-prepared to take on challenging roles immediately upon graduation.
The Hybrid Internship concludes with a detailed report, where students summarize their learning outcomes, proposed solutions, and recommendations. This internship model allows students to develop into well-rounded professionals while enabling companies to nurture future talent.
Project Internship
Duration: 12 weeks during the fourth semester
Typical period: March–May
The Project Internship is a focused, final-semester experience that enables students to work on specific, targeted projects within an organization. Unlike a capstone project, which is typically a broad culmination of multiple learnings, the Project Internship focuses on addressing specific challenges or improvement areas identified by the company.
Key Elements:
- Targeted Problem-Solving: Companies assign students to address particular challenges or areas requiring improvement. Students employ their academic knowledge, critical thinking, and data-driven methodologies to propose viable solutions, creating a project that has direct, tangible benefits for the organization.
- In-Depth Role Preparation: For students who have already secured full-time roles, this internship provides an invaluable opportunity to familiarize themselves with the organization and the role they will eventually assume. By spending additional time with the company, students gain a better understanding of their future responsibilities and build the skills needed to excel in their roles.
- Comprehensive Project Report: The Project Internship concludes with a project report, submitted to both the company and SSN, outlining the project’s objectives, findings, analysis, and proposed solutions. This documentation demonstrates the student’s capacity for structured research, critical analysis, and practical application of their skills.
The Project Internship provides a valuable opportunity for students to demonstrate their professional readiness, contribute effectively to organizational goals, and gain a significant edge in their career journey by engaging directly in a role-aligned project.
