The EEE department, started in 1996, has a team of highly qualified and experienced faculty. With its exceptional infrastructure, the department accentuates on sound practical knowledge, while nurturing creativity in the student community. The department offers B.E in Electrical and Electronics Engineering, M.E. in Power Electronics & Drives programs. These programs have been accredited by the NBA consecutively for the past 10 years. In addition, the department offers Ph.D. and PDF programs.
The department is a recognized Research Centre of Anna University. The department consists of 28 academic faculty members along with 73 research scholars pursuing their PhD with a total research funding of more than Rs.1 Crore. The department has successfully completed research funding worth 2.5 crores from various funding agencies like MNRE, DST, AICTE …etc. It is also involved in research and industrial consultancy from various companies of worth 35 lakhs.
The department has published over 91journal papers in the past two years. All the students have the possibility to participate in the research activity through their Internally Funded Project scheme provided by SSN trust and publish papers in refereed journals/conferences. The students are provided with ample opportunities for the training program of reputed industries, professional societies, research organizations and academic universities. The Institution is strategically located in the hub of electrical and automobile industries, that will bring more opportunities to the students.
It has signed MoU with global industries like Dandfoss, Siechem Technologies PVT Ltd, Vamasundari trust, Predictive energy Instruments, Sheenlac Paints, Lucas TVS, Ashok Leyland, etc., to conduct industry relevant R&D and internships for students. Faculty and students are actively involved in innovative, sponsored research projects. The major R&D projects are funded by Multi-National Companies and government organizations such as AICTE, DST-SERB and MNRE. The expertise of the faculty is also reflected with the good number of Patents being filed.
The department exhibits vibrant technical events to get exposed to the global research activities through various referred conferences, faculty development programmes (FDP), short-term training programmes (STTP) and workshop. The department has a knee vision in continuous learning, organising the following events in sequel.
- International Conference on Power and Embedded Drive Control (ICPEDC)
- International Conference on Electrical and Energy Systems (ICEES)
- Recent Trends on Power and Energy Engineering (RTPEE)
The objective of these events is to bring together the technologists, researchers and industries around the world, from various verticals over the same forum. The knowledge transfer is prominently manifested in the form of keynote talks, hand-on sessions and paper presentations.
The EEE department has established a good reputation in the field of power electronics, machines, with prominence in renewable energy and Electric Vehicle technology. Significant research arenas in power electronics include static power conversion, application of power electronics to improve the performance of power systems, renewable resources interface; magnetic, battery and flywheel energy storages and use of artificial intelligence and IoT in power electronics. Electric machines and drives comprise the aspects related to machine design and control, which includes electromagnetic 2D and 3D based design and analysis of electric motors, especially Switched Reluctance Motor, BLDC, Synchronous Reluctance drives for various industrial applications and intelligent motion control of electric drives.
Our objectives are to use the above experience to perform collaborative research with industry and to improve student outcome through teaching, research, development and training in the emerging technologies.
