Batches Admitted Up to and Including Academic Year (AY) 2025-26

1. Progressive Closure & General Clarifications

• What does “progressive closure” mean?

Progressive closure means SSN College of Engineering will stop taking new admissions from AY 2026-27 onwards, but all current students will continue their program without any change until graduation as per the existing Anna University regulations.

• Why has SSN opted for progressive closure?

This transition is part of an institutional plan to offer future engineering programs under SNU Chennai, which provides multidisciplinary education and follows a modern, flexible, globally aligned university framework. This shift will enhance academic quality, optimise resources and offer students greater opportunities for placement and professional growth.

• Does this affect current students in any way?

No. All current/existing students will complete their degree under the academic and administrative conditions communicated at the time of admission.

• Is SSN shutting down?

SSN College of Engineering is undergoing progressive closure. SSN School of Engineering under Shiv Nadar University Chennai will offer programs that are similar and, in several aspects, enhanced from the current curriculum frameworks.

• Is this decision due to financial or administrative issues?

No. This is a planned transition, not linked to any financial or administrative challenges.

2. Anna University Affiliation, Academics & Examinations

• Will SSNCE continue under Anna University affiliation for current batches?

Yes. The affiliation will remain valid until the graduation of the last batch admitted in AY 2025-26.

• How will students receive their Anna University degree?

All students admitted up to AY 2025-26 will receive their degree in the regular, approved manner after fulfilling academic requirements and passing the university examinations.

• Will the syllabus, exams or grading system change?

No. All academic regulations will continue exactly as per Anna University norms.

• Will my child be moved to SNU Chennai or shifted mid-program?

No. All current/existing students will complete their entire course in SSNCE with Anna University affiliation.

• Will NAAC/NBA accreditation remain valid?

Yes. All accreditations will remain valid for the programs currently running at SSNCE.

• Will SSN’s NIRF rank remain valid?

SSN’s NIRF rank will remain valid up to AY 2026-27.

• What happens if a student has arrears/backlog after the last batch graduates?

The academic norms as per prevailing Anna University regulations will continue to apply.

3. Faculty, Teaching Quality, Infrastructure & Student Services

• Will current faculty remain until existing batches graduate?

Yes. Faculty will continue teaching until all students complete their programs at SSNCE.

• Will classes, labs and academic schedules continue normally?

Yes. There will be no disruption to academic delivery.

• Will the existing scholarships continue?

Yes. All existing scholarships - Merit, Merit-cum-Means, Rural, Walk-in-Walk-out, Sports and other institutional scholarships - will continue as per policy for the current SSN students.

• Will labs and infrastructure remain available?

Yes. All academic and research facilities remain fully available.

• Will student services like hostel, transport, library and counselling continue?

Yes. All services will remain fully functional.

• How will the students and parents be informed about the changes during the transition?

4. Fees & Financial Matters

• Will the fee structure change for current students due to progressive closure?

No. The fee structure for current students will continue as per the prevailing norms applicable to their batch.

• Will there be any additional charges because the college is entering progressive closure?

No. There will be no additional charges. This transition does not affect existing student fees in any way.

• Will SNU Chennai’s fee structure affect the fees of current SSNCE students?

No. SNU Chennai’s fee policies have no impact on existing SSNCE students.

• Will hostel, transport or other service fees change in the coming years?

These will follow prevailing annual policies, if any - nothing related to progressive closure.

5. Placement and Career Development Centre (CDC)

• Will placements be affected due to progressive closure?

No. SSN’s Placement Cell and Career Development Centre (CDC) continues full operations.

• Will internship, PPO and industry project opportunities continue?

Yes. All existing partnerships remain intact.

• Will international or high-package placements continue?

Yes. High-value recruiters will continue to engage.

• Will top companies like Google, Microsoft, Amazon and core firms still hire?

Yes. All regular recruiters will continue visiting as per their requirements.

• Will the merger into SNU Chennai improve future opportunities for SSN students?

SNU Chennai’s ecosystem will offer additional opportunities. SSN’s placement operations for current students remain independent and fully functional.

6. Higher Education, Research & Competitive Exams

• Will this transition affect chances for MS/MTech/MBA abroad?

No. Anna University degrees are globally recognised.

• Is the degree valid for UPSC, TNPSC, GATE, CAT, TANCET and other exams?

Yes. All government and national exams accept the Anna University degree.

• Will guidance for GATE, GRE, CAT, UPSC and other competitive exams continue?

Yes. Training and mentorship for competitive exams will continue in the campus.

• Will students still get research support, project labs and faculty mentorship?

Yes. All research and project support continue as per policy.

• Will faculty provide LORs even after graduation?

Yes. LOR support will continue.

• Will student clubs, fests and events continue?

Yes. All cultural, technical and sports activities will continue as per policy.

7. Existing PhD Scholars under Anna University

• Will there be a change in my research supervisor because of the progressive closure of SSNCE?

No. Change in supervisor arises only if the current supervisor is transferred to SNUC. In that case, if the scholar has received his/her provisional registration confirmed, there is no need for change in the supervisor. However, a research coordinator has to be appointed as per the regulations of Anna university.

• Will current research scholars be shifted from SSNCE to SNUC?

Not necessary. All scholars who have already registered under Anna University and completed confirmation can continue and complete their research as per Anna University regulations. However, if the scholar wishes to migrate to SNUC, it is also possible as per the regulations of SNUC.

• When will I need a Research Coordinator?

If the supervisor of the scholar has migrated to SNUC and if the scholar’s research status is confirmation completed, then a research coordinator must be appointed in the department of SSNCE in which the scholar belongs to.

• In which cases, should a new supervisor be appointed?

As per the regulations of Anna University, if the existing supervisor migrates to a different university, a new supervisor should be appointed if the scholar’s registration is not confirmed. If the scholar’s provisional registration is confirmed, a research coordinator may be appointed and the scholar can continue under the same supervisor.

• Can the scholar pursue course works in SSNCE?

The scholar can take course works under SSNCE until the PG program is under Anna University. When SSNCE does not offer PG programs, the scholar should do the course works only under PG programs of any other Institution, registered with Anna University or take National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL) courses.

• If my SSN DC member migrates to SNUC, should I apply for a change in Doctoral Committee (DC) member?

The scholar may submit a request to Anna University to retain the same DC member or change in DC member as per the regulations of Anna University.

• Whether DC member for a research scholar already in SNUC can be retained?

Yes. Existing DC members of SNUC can be retained if the scholar is pursuing research under Anna University.

• Will my fellowship - Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) / Senior Research Fellowship (SRF), etc. under SSNCE be affected if my supervisor migrates to SNUC?

No. The existing fellowships under SSNCE will not be affected.

• If the scholar status is provisional registration and wishes to migrate to SNUC to pursue research along with the supervisor, is it allowed?

Yes. The scholar can be moved to SNUC along with the supervisor migration. In such cases, the course works completed by the scholars under Anna University will be considered as per the MoU between SNUC and Anna University.

• If the scholar status is provisional registration and wishes to pursue research under Anna university with the same supervisor who has migrated to SNUC, is it allowed?

No. The scholar cannot continue his/her research in Anna University under the same supervisor if the supervisor has migrated to SNUC. In such cases, the scholar should also migrate to SNUC to pursue research under the same supervisor or request for a change of supervisor under Anna University.

• If I am willing to migrate to SNUC under the same supervisor, will I get fellowship (JRF / SRF, etc.) under SNUC?

The scholar migrating to SNUC can apply for the fellowship as per the research scholar policy of SNUC.

8. Alumni Status & Long-Term Support

• Will current students be SSN alumni?

Yes. All current students will become SSN alumni.

• Will the SSN Alumni Association (SSNAA) remain active?

Yes. SSNAA will continue providing its mentoring, scholarship, networking and other support to students.

• Will alumni support services – verifications, transcripts, events – continue after the last batch?

Yes. Institutional support will remain intact.

• Will alumni mentorship and chapter events continue?

Yes. All alumni privileges continue as before.

9. Future Admissions (AY 2026-27 Onwards & SNU Chennai)

• Where will new admissions/NRI/PIO admissions take place?

The admissions for engineering programs from AY 2026-27 onwards will take place at the SSN School of Engineering under SNU Chennai, as per the university’s admission policy. Please refer to the official website for details: www.snuchennai.edu.in

• Will SNU Chennai engineering programs be equivalent to SSNCE programs?

Yes. The SSN School of Engineering under SNU Chennai will offer programs that are similar and, in several aspects, enhanced from, the current curriculum frameworks.

• Will the campus location change?

No. SSN and SNU Chennai will continue to function from the same campus at Kalavakkam.

• Will SNU Chennai programs be more expensive?

Fee structure is decided as per the policies of SNU Chennai. The fee structure for AY 2026-27 is displayed on the SNUC website www.snuchennai.edu.in

• Will lateral-entry admissions be available from AY 2026-27 onwards?

No, lateral-entry admissions are not permitted under SNU Chennai’s admission policy. For more details, please visit the official website: www.snuchennai.edu.in

• Can current SSN students transfer to SNU Chennai?

No. All current SSN students will be required to complete their degree as per the existing regulations.

• Will current students have access to SNU Chennai events, resources or workshops?

Yes. Joint events and collaborations will continue.

• What if social media posts create confusion?
