Dr. K. A. Muthukumar is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at SSN College of Engineering, Chennai, India. He received his B.Tech. degree in Computer Science and Engineering from the National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli, M.Tech. in Computer Science and Engineering from Pondicherry University, and Ph.D. in Engineering from Keio University, Japan. He also holds a Post-Graduate Diploma in Intellectual Property Rights Law from National Law School of India University, Bangalore. His research interests include AI for Healthcare, Computer Vision, Machine Learning, Infrared Imaging, and IoT-based Edge Computing Systems. Dr. Muthukumar has contributed significantly to activity detection using infrared sensors, multi-modal healthcare diagnostics integrating ECG and fundus images, and AI- driven solutions for Ayurveda and legal evidence analysis under uncertainty.
Dr. Muthukumar has industry research experience as a Computer Vision and Machine Learning Engineer at MOTiV Research Co., Japan, where he worked on advanced computer vision algorithms and industrial AI solutions. This role provided him with practical exposure to real-world AI deployments in product R&D environments. He has published several research papers in reputed international journals and conferences including IEEE Access, Scientific Reports, Sensors, and Discover Food.
Dr. Muthukumar has been awarded several grants and fellowships, including the DST-SERB Grant (2024-2027) for his project on Fetal Arrhythmia Detection, the KLL Research Grant from Keio University, and the Monbukagakusho MEXT Scholarship by the Government of Japan. He has secured copyrights for two innovative healthcare applications, Hriday (ECG tagging app) and Sulabh (Disability Indexing app).
He has delivered invited talks on Infrared Imaging in Healthcare, AI in Micro-Grid systems, and Recent Advancements in AI at reputed institutions and conferences including CSNT-2023 IEEE Conference, Nagaland University, and PATH Global Health Organisation.
Dr. Muthukumar actively engages in industry consultations with companies such as Raspect Hong Kong and Alstom France for projects on robotics train inspection, facade monitoring, and structural damage detection. He has established and leads the Centre of Excellence IoT AI Healthcare Lab, mentoring undergraduate and doctoral students, conducting faculty development programs, and leading strategic research collaborations.
He has chaired sessions at several international conferences including BITMDM- 2024, CSNT-2024, ICAT 2024 Oman and has received the ICM English Session Encouragement Award at IEICE Conference, Japan. His professional memberships include IEEE, and he contributes actively to open-source AI communities.
