Student Co-curricular Activities and Achievements at SSN Institutions

At SSN Institutions, students actively participate in various co-curricular activities, including technical clubs, hackathons, cultural fests, and leadership programs. These platforms foster innovation, teamwork, and personal growth, enabling students to excel beyond academics. Their achievements in national and international competitions reflect the institution’s commitment to holistic development.

International Level

Pooja Premnath has participated in NetMob 2023 international conference, co-located with a data challenge organized by IMDEA Networks Institute, at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M), in Madrid, Spain, held from October 4-6, 2023. She presented a paper titled, “Batch Network Slicing for OTT Services in a Demand-Aware SDN Environment” along with her faculty mentor Dr. H Shahul Hamead, Assistant Professor, CSE. She secured a Student Travel Grant, as one of the six student recipients, and only undergraduate. The travel grant is sponsored by the Spanish Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation through PRTR and the European Union-Next Generation EU, for the promotion of telecommunication studies in Spain.

Harshavardhan Suresh, Kiran Raj KB, Deepak Sriram of IV year participated in ACM ICPC Asia Chennai Regional Contest at international level held during 11.1.2024 to 12.1.2024 hosted by IIITDM Kancheepuram, Chennai and secured 2nd rank.

In order to nurture the competitive programming skills amongst students, the department initiated a coding club which was inaugurated on 28.2.2017 by Mr. Anoop Kalbalia, Business Head, Codechef. The club received a Grant of Rs. 1,00,000/- from AICTE Financial Assistance under Scheme for Promoting Interests, Creativity, and Ethics among Students (SPICES) for the academic year 2022-23.

Vignesh Balaji S of 2019-23 Batch attended UNESCO-India-Africa (UIA) Hackathon conducted by Ministry of Education’s Innovation Cell (MIC) and the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) from 22nd November 2022 to 25th November 2022 at Gautam Buddha University, Greater Noida.

Aathish Sivasubrahmanian of III year CSE participated in hackXGPT, the HackMIT 2023 puzzle CTF held from 4 .7.2023 to 7.8.2023 organized by Massachusetts Institute of Technology at international level and secured 18th place internationally, securing guaranteed admission to HackMIT, MIT’s annual flagship Hackathon.

National Level

Smart India Hackathon Our department has continuously encouraged students to participate in Smart India Hackathon conducted by Government of India from the year 2017. Our students have won accolades every year securing the top prizes. SIH 2023 Grand Finale: The team “SeedShare” headed by APURVA NARAYAN and team members Themozhi J, Olirva M, Keerthan V S, Rupam Banik, Karthik Vijayakumar mentored by Dr. Chitra Babu won the AWS special prize of Rs. 50,000 in the SIH grand finale 2023 held at Prasad V Potluri Siddhartha Institute of Technology, Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh during 19.12.2023 and 20.12.2023. Hackathons Raghul Yadhav K, Swathika D, Ragul B of III Year CSE along with Desigan of III year BVSc & AH of Madras Veterinary College bagged the third prize (second runner place) with a cash award of Rs. 25,000 in KCT Livestock hackathon’23  at Kumaraguru College of Technology, Coimbatore during 28.09.2023 to 01.10.2023. Sathvika V S , Swetha J III Year CSE bagged the third prize (second runner place) with a cash award of Rs. 15,000 in Athena Hacks’23  at PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore organised by ACM-W India during 24.11.2023 to 25.11.2023. Avinash Kartik, a final year CSE student. I would like to announce with immense pleasure that I’ve become a Grandmaster (GM) in Codeforces. GM is a title given to highly skilled competitive programmers on Codeforces. As few as 15 programmers in India hold this title. Joseph Amirtharaj, a third year CSE student became a Grandmaster on a programming platform called Codeforces.

Nanda Harishankar Krishna, Naveen Narayanan, Reshma Ramesh Babu and Rohit Midha from 2017- 2021 batch were selected as one of the 50 people selected for the Computer Vision track at Google summer school.

DevelopHER Srinithyee S K from 2018-2021 batch participated in the DevelopHER the Coding Challenge specially for women by the Engineers at Twitter. Srinithyee S. K and her team won the first prize.

State Level

Namshika S N, Aadithya Hariharan, Keerthipriya M S and Manickam L of IV-year CSE made it to the semifinals and won overall 3rd place in the Regional Finals (Chennai District) of the IBM Nalaiya Thiran Tech Showcase.

Prize won: 3rd place in the Regional Finals

Report: For the Regional Finals, a total of 30 teams across Chennai were shortlisted. Various industry experts were called in as judges, to make up a panel of 9, notably employees from Zoho and professors from other respected academic institutes. There were 3 panels and 2 rounds of the competition, first wherein the teams were split into 3 panels (10 teams each) with 3 judges each, and the top 2 teams from each panel selected. Then a final round with the 6 teams and all 9 judges was conducted. We placed 3rd in the overall competition, showcasing our presentation and demo using the IBM tools such as Node RED and IBM Watson.

Tamil Nadu Police Hackathon

A State-level hackathon on Cyberattacks was conducted by IIT, Madras and Tamil Nadu Police Department on 23rd November 2019. Mohanasundar and Jothishmathi of 2017-21 batch secured First Place among 111 teams with cash award of Rs. 50,000. The students were recognized as volunteers to protect the state from cyber attack.  Mohanasundar, Kandavel and Jyothishmathi have published their innovation Text steganography tool. The page has 1.7K stars in Github securing the #1 position in steganography tools.

Students’ Extra Curricular Activities

International Level

Yuvapriya N, Vishnu Praba A J, Shankari SR, Samah Syed of II year CSE  C have participated in International Conclave for Women in STEM held on 18.3.2024 to 19.3.2024 organized by Agaram foundation & Anna University at College of Engineering, Guindy.

National Level

Rishab S of II Year performed at the 58th Roller Skating National Meet organized by the Roller Skating Federation of India in Mohali, Punjab, during the year 2021. Representing Tamil Nadu with pride and determination, he emerged triumphant by securing an impressive tally of 2 Gold Medals in Road Elimination (15 Km) and Point to Point Track (10km) and 2 Bronze Medals in 1000m (Track) and Road Point to Point (10km) respectively. Rishab was presented with the High Cash Incentive Award by the Honourable Sports Minister, Udhayanidhi Stalin, at the prestigious Kalaivanar Arangam, Chennai with cash reward of Rupees 9 lakhs, on 23rd February 2024 for representing India in the Junior Category at the World Championship held in Ibague, Colombia, the same year.
Nandini Sree R R of 3rd year CSE ‘B’ participated in the National level event – Model United Nations named ‘Vitness Leadership Summit ’23’ held at the VIT Law School, Chennai during 3.11.2023 and 4.11.2023 and secured a ‘verbal mention’. The SSN college team won the best delegation award. Nandini Sree R R of 3rd year CSE; was given a “Verbal Mention”; appreciating her delegation in the National level event – Model United Nations named ‘Vitness Leadership Summit (VLS) ‘23’ on the 3rd and 4th of November 2023. A total of 300+ delegates from colleges across the country like HITS, VITC, KCG, SVCE, VITV, etc. attended. 45 students from our college attended it. Our college students from various departments won many awards and a couple of them chaired. Overall our students won Best Delegation.

State Level

Sathvika. V. S of 3 rd year CSE has participated in the Table Tennis tournament organized by Kongu Engineering college at State level during 10.9.2023 to 11.9.2023 and secured First Place.

S Jagrath Mithun of II year CSE has participated in Anna University Zonals for basketball held on 27.9.23 at SRM Easwari Engineering College and secured second place in basketball at inter college state level.

Sathvika of II year CSE has participate at the Inter Engineering College State level Table Tennis tournament conducted by Sairam College of Engineering on the 29th of September 2022.

Pradeep G and Shashank Panda of 3rd Year CSE was placed Second in “Aakrithi ­ Battle of Bands Eastern/Fusion” hosted by VIT Chennai on 27 Nov 2021.

Pradeep G and Shashank Panda of 3rd year CSE was placed second in “Tarang” hosted by IIT Madras on 8th January 2022.

Shashank Panda of 3rd year CSE was placed first in “Decibels” hosted by IIT Madras on 7th January 2022.
