Dr. K. Nirmala is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering with over twenty-three years of academic experience. She received her Bachelor of Engineering in Biomedical Instrumentation Engineering from Avinashilingam Deemed University, Coimbatore, and her Master of Engineering in Medical Electronics from the College of Engineering, Anna University, Chennai. She subsequently obtained her Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) from Anna University, Chennai.

Dr. Nirmala has authored and co-authored more than sixty research publications in reputed international journals and conference proceedings. She has guided over fifty undergraduate and postgraduate research projects and has been the recipient of the Best Teacher Award on two occasions in recognition of her academic excellence. She is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society (EMBS), and a life member of the Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE). She has been actively involved in the organization and conduct of workshops, conferences, and seminars, contributing significantly to academic and research development in her field. Her research interests encompass image processing, machine learning, and deep learning, with a particular focus on their applications in biomedical engineering. She is Anna University recognized supervisor and currently guiding 02 PhD scholars under her supervision.
