B.Tech Chemical Engineering
The Department of Chemical Engineering was established in 2004. The Department offers B.Tech(Chemical Engineering) from 2004–2005. M.Tech (Environmental Science and Technology) from 2014–2015.
In 2011, the Department was recognised as a Centre for Research by Anna University to offer Ph.D. and M.S.(by Research) programs in collaboration with Anna University.
Vision
To be a globally recognized Chemical Engineering department with excellence in teaching, research and consultancy services.
Mission
- Continued focus on excellence in teaching and learning by investing in faculty and staff development and resources.
- To produce Chemical Engineers who will contribute to the process industries worldwide.
- To provide the students a strong fundamental technical education that makes them capable of catering to the needs of a changing technological environment and the society.
Chemical Engineering - Bridging Science and Industry for Innovation and Sustainability
Chemical Engineering is one of the most popular branches of engineering which deals with the large-scale production of chemicals.
Chemical Engineers apply both the knowledge of chemistry and the principles of engineering in the chemical industry and thus forming a bridge between science and manufacturing.
They are involved in a wide variety of activities like equipment designing, process development for chemical manufacturing on a large scale, planning, testing various ways of production and treatment of by-products and supervising manufacturing activities.
Chemical Engineers (also called Process Engineers) work in various aspects of various industries such as chemicals, petroleum and petrochemicals, bio-chemicals, food preservation, pharmaceuticals, electronic materials, materials of everyday life, energy, environment, etc.
Comprehensive Chemical Engineering Education: Building Future Innovators
A chemical engineer’s education includes an intense sequence of chemistry courses in addition to mathematics, physics and engineering sciences.
Students also study subjects relating to processes, machinery, and plants used in chemical industries.
This intensive study of engineering and science provides a basis for the graduating student to conduct research, improve processes or materials, develop and design plants, or direct operations of industrial plants involving chemical methods.
Excellence in Chemical Engineering, Advanced Research and Innovation
The Department has highly qualified faculty, many of them are with Ph.D. degrees.
Faculty are doing Research (besides teaching) in the areas of nanomaterials, preparation of chemicals from waste materials, natural product extraction, photocatalysis, ionic compounds, etc.
The research works are published in reputed journals and conferences.
The Department has state-of-art laboratory equipment, modern analytical instruments (UV-Vis Spectrophotometer, HPLC, GC, AAS, Bioreactor, etc.) and chemical engineering software (CHEMCAD, Ansys, AspenPlus,MATLAB & Simulink, COSMOThermX andTURBOMOLE) for carrying out a research program.
Holistic Learning and Industry Exposure
The Department periodically organises workshops, training programs and conferences in many emerging areas.
Industrial visits and tours are arranged periodically to help the students. Students are encouraged to undergo in-plant training.
In the third and final year of study, personality development training programs are conducted to equip the students for placement. Guidance is given for competitive exams such as GATE, GRE, etc.
