Dr. R. Seyezhai is a distinguished academic with over 26 years of experience in teaching and research, including 18 years dedicated to Power Electronics and Renewable Energy Systems. She received her B.E. in Electrical Engineering from Manonmaniam Sundaranar University (1996), her M.E. in Power Electronics & Drives from Bharathidasan University (1998), and her Ph.D. from Anna University (2010), Chennai.

Her academic journey is marked by excellence in innovation, curriculum development, research mentorship, and institutional rankings (NBA, ARIIA). As an Innovation Ambassador certified by the Ministry of Education’s Innovation Cell & AICTE (2021), Dr.R.Seyezhai has made significant contributions to the SSN Innovation Centre and Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC).

Research Publications

  • 400 research publications in referred International Journals and International and National Conferences.
  • Received around 30 best paper awards in various international conferences.

She is the author of two widely acclaimed textbooks:

  1. Solid State DC and AC Drives
  2. Power Electronics for Renewable Energy Systems

Both published by Scitech Publications, these books serve as definitive resources for aspiring engineers, researchers, and academic institutions across the country.

She has received various awards that include the Antia Memorial Prize from the Institution of Engineers for the year 2021,Young achiever and Research Excellence award for the Year 2017, Best Supervisor award 2017, Outstanding Faculty award in the field of power electronics in 2016, the Best Academic Researcher Award for the year 2015 from the Association of Scientists, Developers and Faculties and the Bharat Jyothi award in 2012 for outstanding contribution to student’s community. She received the best teacher award for the academic years 2020-21, 2018-19,2017-18, 2016-2017,2016-15, 2013-14, 2012-13, 2004-2005 and the CTS Best Faculty Award for the year 2012-13

She has completed five research projects funded by the AICTE & SSN Management and is executing one funded project currently.

She has successfully graduated 15 Ph.D. students and currently guiding three research scholars.

Innovation, Infrastructure & Labs

She has been instrumental in conceptualizing and establishing two advanced laboratories at SSN:

  • Renewable Energy Conversion Laboratory
  • Renewable Energy Systems Laboratory

These state-of-the-art facilities, developed through a combination of internal and external funding, serve as platforms for interdisciplinary research and innovation in green energy technologies.

She is in the editorial board and reviewer board of several referred international journals. She is an active member in IEEE and life member in ISTE. Currently, she is the Immediate past Chairman, IEEE-PELS, Madras chapter and execom member for the year 2023-24.

She has mentored students to develop Innovative solutions for solar based warning system and solar powered mobile charging station and has won prizes in national and international hackathons.

Currently, she organized the Eighth International Conference ICEES 2022and a Virtual International conference on Renewable Energy systems -ICRES2020, and the conference proceedings were published in the Springer proceedings of Energy. She has also organized various workshops, seminars, hands-on training program in software simulation and delivered numerous keynote addresses and guest lectures.

  • Bharathi, Sankar, and R. Seyezhai are the inventors of the patent titled "Solar Powered Battery Operated Vehicle using BLDC Drive",(201741019394), was granted on 16th October 2023.
  • R. Seyezhai and V. Chamundeeswari are the inventors of the patent titled "A Novel Encode-Decode Power Electronic Circuit for Data Transmission" (201841015775), was granted on 12th April 2024 in India.

Dr.R.Seyezhai and Dr.D.Umarani, have ventured into entrepreneurial journey by starting a Start-up, “ Shrimitha Energy Solutions Private Limited”, which is currently incubated at SSN Incubation Foundation, SSN College of Engineering, Chennai.This start-up focuses on the power electronic solutions for various applications.
