Education and Research Profile:
Nimeshika Venkatesan, Assistant Professor, Department of English has been engaging with folklore studies for over ten years. She completed her doctoral thesis from Stella Maris College (Autonomous) affiliated to the University of Madras. Her thesis entitled “Dialogic Vernacular Expressivity in the Novelised Saint Narratives of Select Virashaiva Saints” is a contribution towards a transdisciplinary approach in creating a reading framework that integrates theoretical methods from literary criticism and folkloristics to strike a balance between western epistemology and indigenous criticism to examine the South Asian influences of storytelling in select Novelised Saint Narratives of three Virashaiva Sants , Akka Mahadevi, Allamaprabhu and Basavanna. She was awarded the DORA PLUS ERASMUS scholarship from 2018-2019 at the department of Estonian and Comparative Folklore Estonia as a visiting Ph. D scholar. She qualified the Tamil Nadu State Eligibility Test in 2017. Nimeshika received her MA in English in 2013 from Stella Maris College (Autonomous), Chennai in 2013 and acquired her BA English Honours Degree from Christ (Deemed to be) University in 2011, Bangalore Chennai. She is an active member of the international Society for Folk Narrative Research, Society of and the Pilgrimage Studies network a sister concern of EASA (European Association of Social Anthropologists) wherein she is the social media convenor. Nimeshika is also an academic Counsellor for the Masters in folklore and Cultural studies Program offered by IGNOU. Nimeshika has taught at Stella Maris College for two years where she handled papers with multidisciplinary approaches such as Literature and Gender, philosophy, media and communication for students of communicative English in addition to soft skills and foundational English for student from other varied streams. She has guided students for their Undergraduate research and has also encouraged and students to participate and present at conferences.
