chemical
Dr. Nalinkanth Ghone is an academic researcher with expertise and avid interests in, polymer/nano-biomaterials, stem cell based tissue engineering and bioreactors for stem cell culture. His rich professional experience includes combination of Industry (4 years), Teaching and Academic research (16 years). He has completed his B.Tech in Chemical Engineering from Coimbatore Institute of Technology in 2000 and completed his PhD at Louisiana Tech University, USA, under the mentorship of Dr. Yuri M. Lvov in 2008. For his PhD he worked on dissertation titled “Nanoengineered bio-formulations for controlled delivery of bioactive compounds”. During his PhD, he received the prestigious Oak Ridge Institute of Science and Education Fellowship Award from US Air force research laboratory, under student research participation program. Post PhD, he completed two post doctoral research works at Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore and University of California, Los Angeles, in the field of tissue engineering and nanomaterials respectively. Since returning back to India in the year 2012, he is engaged in research on biomaterials, stem cell based tissue engineering and role of stem cells in tumor microenvironment. Prior to Joining SSN, he served at Sri Venkateswara College of Engineering (SVCE, Sriperumbudur, as Professor & Assistant Head, Department of Chemical Engineering, and Adjunct Professor, Department of Biotechnology.
Under his mentorship the iGEM team of SVCE won Bronze medal in 2015 and Silver medal continuously in 2016 & 2017. He was invited Member of the National Brainstorming Meeting on Synthetic Biology in 2017, by DBT, New Delhi, INDIA. At SVCE, he mentored a Fulbright Scholar, Mr. Himanshu Dashora from Johns Hopkins University, USA, during 2018-2019. He received an Early Career Research Award from DST, SERB, Govt. of India, New Delhi, in 2017 for making personalized bone graft using stem cells.
