SSN launches Open Source Software Laboratory

SSN College of Engineering launched an Open Source
Software Laboratory in the Department of Computer
Science Engineering (on Friday, June 26, 2009), as a
part of an MoU signed with Cognizant Technology
Solutions (CTS). Till now, CTS has selected 8
Engineering colleges all over India to establish
such a facility including SSN. In Tamilnadu, College
of Engineering, Guindy and P.S.G. College of
Technology are few institutes where CTS has
established a similar facilty.
The Open Source Lab is an advanced state-of-the-art
facility that is aimed at fostering innovation,
research and development, at SSN College of
Engineering. This lab will be used by the students
and research scholars for doing internship and
consultancy projects such as development of low cost
software tools, and for doing fundamental research
in issues related to Open source software
development.
The Lab was inaugurated by Mr.Viswakumar
Ramasubramanian, Asst. Vice President, Global
Technology Office, CTS in the presence of Captain.
Chandrasekharan Rao, Manager, Learning &
Development, Mr.Sriram Iyer, Manager, HR Campus Team
and Mr. K.G. Karthik, Campus Team from CTS and
Ms.Kala Vijaykumar, President, SSN Institutions, Dr.
S.Salivahanan, Principal, SSN College of
Engineering, and Dr.Chitra Babu, Professor & Head,
Department of Computer Science and Engineering and
faculty members. |

Speaking at the inauguration, Mr.Viswakumar
Subramanian, Asst. Vice President, Global Technology
office, CTS said, "This agreement is a part of our
commitment to work closely with professional
institutes such as SSN that provides high-quality
education. Research and innovation should be an
integral part of quality education and Open Source
Software definitely paves way for such innovation".
Ms. Kala Vijaykumar, President, said "We are
delighted to be working closely with reputed
organization like CTS. We are confident that this
initiative will provide our students and research
scholars many more opportunities to actively
participate in open source software development
forums". |
