| The 14th Annual College Day celebrations took place at the main auditorium of the college on 2nd April 2010 at 2 p.m. This occasion, closest to the heart of the institution, began with a melodious prayer song.
At the outset, Mr Shiv Prasad, Member of the Management Board, presented the bouquet of welcome to our honourable Chief Guest, Thiru K Ashok Vardhan Shetty, I.A.S., Secretary to the Govt, Dept of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj, Govt of Tamil Nadu. This was followed by the welcome speech by the Dean Dr K Kasturi. The Principal, Dr. S. Salivahanan, presented the Annual report of the vibrant campus during this academic year wherein casual days competed with energy-filled days and award days. The audience remained spell-bound listening to the account of the achievements and the achievers of the college. After the presentation, there was a thunderous applause which continued as the B.E. / B. Tech departments presented their individual reports. The report of the School of Management and Computer Application was also laid bare to the audience. Co-curricular activities went hand-in-hand as the Sports Secretary, enumerated the sports activities and achievements in the field of sports and games. The fact that Extra-curricular activities abound in SSN, was proved by the report of the cultural events of the college by the Cultural Secretary.
The stage was set on a more intellectual plane as our Director SOMCA Mr B Srinivasan, introduced the Chief Guest of the Day to the audience. Following this, the Chief Guest, Thiru K Ashok Vardhan Shetty, IAS, Secretary to the Govt, Dept of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj, Govt of Tamil Nadu, delivered the much-awaited address. This celebrity was specially chosen because he could inspire the audience and leave a relevant message to the students. He did appeal to the whole audience when he exposed the findings that competitions are getting tougher year after year, and hence the preparation for the same should become equally dedicated and committed to the goal of excellence. The speech was informative and enlightening, and so when the prize distribution began, the mood to cheer up the winners was encouraging. The prizes distributed were divided into three different lists: (1) Performance in the co-curricular and extra-curricular activities (2) Academic achievers and (3) The Best Outgoing student in each department and the Chairman's Gold Medal.
The next item of the programme was the offering of the memento to our Chief Guest by Madam Kala Vijayakumar, President of SSN Institutions. The formal meeting was wound up by the rendering of the Vote of Thanks by Dr S.V. Albal, Director of SASE. After this the stage was handed over to the exuberant compere, Sainath, III year BME, where the Variety Entertainment started off. |
