10th Annual
Sports Report 2008-2009
Good morning everybody. I deem it a great pleasure
to present the Tenth annual sports report of the
SSN College of Engineering for the academic Year
2008-2009.
Sports and education must work hand-in-hand and
that aspect has been best understood and followed
by our management and Institution.
SSN College of Engineering has been imparting not
only the quality education but also providing
opportunities to build up a healthy body. The
students are coached in both indoor and outdoor
games. Students are offered special coaching for
Basketball, football, Table tennis, Tennis,
Cricket and Squash.
It is indeed a great pleasure that the year has
been extremely promising and fruitful as for as
the sports is concerned. Our sports talents have
made the institutions proud by winning prestigious
tournaments beyond expectations and so, I take
this opportunity to congratulate our boy’s and
girls for their hard work immense efforts and
dedications.
I am proud to announce that our students have
excelled in their academics as well and many of
them have been awarded merit scholarship apart
from sports scholarship.
As for sports at our college for the academic year
Healthy competitions prevailed among the students
for the intramurals who were grouped under their
respective years under different houses namely
green, yellow, red, blue and rose.
We conducted Inter year tournaments in the
following sports and games.
Volleyball, Cricket, Basketball, Throw
ball, Table Tennis, Squash, Chess, Tennis, Carrom,
Badminton, Foot ball, Ball Badminton and
Athletics.
Now I am pleased to announce our students’
achievements in the International level
tournaments.
1. K.Shamini of I yr MBA has represented for India
and participated in many international Table
tennis tournaments like Serbian open, Poland open,
Qatar open and Qwaith open championships and she
is the current senior national champion in India.
At present she is at china attending the coaching
camp for participation in the 2010 commonwealth
games.
2. P.Priya of I yr MBA has participated in the
Malaysian open chess championship held at Kula-lampur.
3. T.Abhay of II yr CSE has participated in the
International Spanish open chess championship held
at Spain.
The following students from our college have
participated in the National level
tournaments.
1. M.Praveen srivatsan of II yr IT has captained
the Tamilnadu state Under-19 cricket team and
participated in the All India tournament organised
by BCCI held at Punjab.
2. R.S.Raja of II yr EEE has won the men doubles
championship runners-up title in the 70th senior
national Table tennis championship, held at
Patna.He has also represented many a time for
international tournaments.
3. Swetha kathri of I yr MBA has participated in
the 34TH National women festival table tennis
tournament held at bhuvenswar and she has secured
gold medal.
4. M. Ashwin of I yr mech has represented the
Tamil nadu under-19 cricket team in the All India
tournament organised by BCCI held at Punjab
5. Tarun veeraragavan of I yr MECH has
participated in the inter club golf tournament
held at Bangalore.
6. Sunnesh kaul of I yr MECH has represented for
tamilnadu state junior Squash team and
participated in the junior national squash
championship held at Chennai.
7. K.Narayanan of I yr IT has represented for
tamilnadu state in the 46th national chess
championship held at Goa.
8. D.Manikandan of Final yr Chemical participated
in the 21st AIKF national karate championship held
at jharkand.
9. R.Vaithyanathan of II Yr IT has participated in
the south zone soft ball championship, held at
ongole.
The following students from our college have
represented in the Anna University team in the
following tournaments.
1. R.Vignesh of III Year Chemical Engineering and
Sunnesh kaul of I yr MECH have participated in the
All India Inter university Squash racket
tournament held at Madras university and secured
bronze medal.
2. R.S.Raja, T.Raguram of II yr EEE and
V.S.Nirupama of III Yr EEE have participated in
the South zone Inter University Table Tennis
tournament held at Kuvembu University, Karnataka.
3. I.B.Abishek of II year CSE, Solomon selvan of I
year ECE and B.Prasanth of III Year EEE have
participated in the south zone Inter university
Tennis tournament held at VIT,vellore.
4. Karthick Bravo of I yr MECH has participated in
the south zone Inter university Basketball
tournaments held at Darward.
5. S.Srivatsh of III Year ECE, and K.Narayanan of
I yr IT have participated in the south west Indian
Inter university chess tournament held at VTU
Belgaum.
6. Harikareddy of I yr ECE and Niranjan of II yr
MECH have participated in the All India Inter
University Swimming competition held at Mumbai
University.
7. Surya Ramachandran of II yr EEE has
participated in the All India inter university
Rowing tournament held at Kolkatta.
8. M.Elshin Joel of III yr BME has participated in
the All India inter university Badminton
tournament held at Assam.
Now I am pleased to announce our students’
achievements in the Inter collegiate tournaments.
Anna University Zone III Tournaments:
1. Men & Women Table tennis teams have
secured the winners trophy.
2. Men cricket team won the winners trophy.
3. Men & women Badminton teams have secured
the Runners-up trophy.
4. Women Volley ball & Badminton team won
the third place.
5. Men & women basketball teams won the
Third place.
6. Tennis & Chess team secured the
runners-up trophy.
Anna University Inter Zone Tournaments:
1. Men Table tennis team secured the winners
trophy
2. Women Table tennis team secured the
runners-up trophy.
3. Men Squash team won the winners trophy.
4. Men cricket team won the third place.
TIES-09 (Tamil Nadu Inter Engineering sports)
1. Our men basketball, Chess and Table
tennis teams have secured the winners trophies
2. Our Women table tennis team won the
Runners trophy.
3. Our men badminton team won the third
place.

3. Our college chess team secured the winners
trophy in the following tournaments.

4. Our college men Badminton team won the winners
trophy in Collaseum-09 organised by Sastra
University, Tanjore and secured runners trophy in
JETS-09.
5. Our college men basket ball team received
winners trophy in the sports fest-09 organised
by IIT-Madras and secured runners trophy in the
peer Mohamed trophy organised by BSA Cresent
college of Engineering.
6. Our college women Badminton team won the
winners trophy in the sportsfest-09 organised by
IIT-Madras.
7. Our college women Basketball team won the
Runners trophy in Collaseum-09 organised by
Sastra University, Tanjore.
Apart from our students achievement our college
organized the following events in the academic
year 2008-09.
I. Our college organized the Anna university
zone –III Badminton, Basketball and
cricketournaments
II. Our college organized the Anna university
Inter zone Squash rackets tournament for men.
III. Our college organized the Anna university
Inter zone women Tennis and cricket tournaments.
Our management is highly interested in encouraging
and honoring outstanding sportspersons every year
by presenting special awards and sports quota
admissions with scholarships.
Now I would like to announce the results of the

We hope that our college students will surely
bring more rewards and prizes in the forthcoming
years. We all stand as proud members of SSN family
