8th Annual Sports Report 2006-2007


Respected Chief Guest, governing council members, the dean, the principal, the director, the registrar, faculty members of all departments and my dear friends, a very good evening to one and all.

It gives me immense pleasure in presenting to you all, the annual sports report of our college for the academic year 2006-2007.Sports has always been an integral part of this institution, and in accordance to this, students are encouraged to participate in the annual inter department games representing their respective departments.

In the intramurals, the boys competed in volleyball, basketball, football, cricket, badminton, ball badminton, table tennis, squash, chess and carrom while the girls competed in throwball, volleyball, basketball, table tennis, badminton, ball badminton, chess and carrom. The following are scores of each department.

EEE was placed 1st with 106 points
IT emerged runners with 80 points
ECE came 3rd with 64 points

This is followed by CHE/BME with 44 points, CSE with 28 points and SOMCA with 20 points

The sports day was held on 21st march, at our college premises. Dr.J.P.SUKUMAR Director of physical education, Anna University, presided over the ceremony and declared the sports meet open. Mr.V.CHANDRASHEKAR, Arjuna awardee, International Table Tennis player, gave away the prizes. The meet witnessed healthy competition and J.Madhava of IT department won the individual championship for boys and A.Muhizh of ECE department won the individual championship for girls in athletics. The overall championship for games went to EEE department. The overall championship for athletics went to ECE department. The march past championship went to EEE department.

 Now I take great pleasure in announcing our students achievements in the Anna University zonal and inter zonal tournaments

 Anna University Zone III Tournaments: 

  • Women table tennis team emerged winners

  • Men volleyball, badminton and tennis team secured the 2nd place

  • Women basketball team won the 3rd place

  • Men cricket and table tennis team also won the 3rd place

  • Men and Women chess team won the runners trophy

  • Anna University Inter Zone tournaments: 

  • Women table tennis team won the winners trophy

  • Mens squash team won the winners trophy

  • Invitational Tournaments:

  • Our college men badminton team won the winners trophy in the state level inter college tournament conducted by Kongu Engineering College

  • Our college women table tennis team won the winners trophy in the JETS 2007 and TIES 2007
     

  • Our college men badminton team won the runners trophy in the TIES 2007
     

  • Our college men table tennis and chess teams won the 3rd place in TIES 2007  and JETS 2007
     

  • Our college women basketball team and badminton teams won the 3rd place in JETS 2007.
     

  • Our college foot ball team won the runners trophy in the Jerusalem foot ball trophy.

    The following students from our college participated in the national level tournaments

     

  • R.Praveen of III yr CSE has participated in the south zone Inter state basket ball tournament that was held at kerala.
     

  • R.Ashwin of III yr IT has represented Tamil Nadu Ranji cricket team and participated in the All India Inter state cricket tournament. This year he received the CEAT domestic bowler of the year award from BCCI. The function was held at Mumbai.
     

  • R.Srinivasan of IV yr EEE was selected for Tamil Nadu Ranji cricket team and participated in the All India Inter state under -25 cricket tournament.
     

  • M.Prakash Raja of II yr EEE has participated in the south zone Inter state Badminton tournament held at Calicut.
     

  • G.Nandakumar of I yr MCA has participated in the 33rd National games held at Gawhathi by representing Tamil nadu and bagged the 2nd place in karate.
     

  • B.Gajalakshmi of IV yr EEE has participated in the KFI National karate championship that was held at Jarkand state.
     

  • T.R.Praveen Kumar of I Year EEE has represented Tamil nadu State in the soft ball team in the senior national softball championship held at Mathya Pradesh.
     

  • S.Anand of I yr MBA has participated in the Inter state under -25 cricket tournament held at Hyderabad.

     The following students from our college were participated in the Anna University team in the following tournaments.
     

  • R.Vignesh of II Year Chemical and M.Prakash raja of II Yr EEE were participated in the south zone and All  India Inter university Badminton tournaments held at Annamalai University and Mumbai University.
     

  • S.Arvind II Year ECE has participated in the south zone Inter university cricket tournaments held at Osmania University.
     

  • S.Nivedita of II Year ECE and Nirupama of I Yr EEE were participated in the south zone and All India Inter University Table Tennis tournaments held at VTU belgaum and Sivaji University.
     

  • B.Prasanth and Pranesh of II Year EEE were participated in the All India Inter university Squash tournament.
     

  • Nithin I Year CSE has participated in the All India Inter University Kho Kho tournament held at Kuvembu University.

    Apart from our students achievement our college organized the following events in the academic year 2006-07.
     

  • Our college organized the Anna university zone –III table tennis women and Badminton tournaments.
     

  • Our college organized the Anna university Inter zone Squash rackets men tournament.
     

  • Our college organized the fifth state level Inter Engineering tournament for Basket ball, Badminton and Table Tennis from February 5th to 8th, 2007.
     

  • Our college organized the mega event – The All India Inter University Squash rackets men tournament from 27th to 30th December 2006.

    With each passing year our institution keeps producing more and more sports persons and the credit for this should almost entirely go to the management of SSN. With steps like providing sports quota admissions, sports scholarships and various other special awards, our management has set up a system which is worth emulating.

     We are sure that with the magnanimity of our management and dedication of the students, we would churn out not only quality engineers but also good sports persons in the forthcoming years.

     We, as proud members of the SSN family look forward to your pivotal support and blessings with which we are sure to improve our records in future endeavors.
