| SSN College of Engineering
announces exclusive scholarships for 1st rank holders from
rural Government schools |

Chennai May 16th, 2008: SSN
College of Engineering has announced exclusive scholarships
for Government school toppers. These scholarships will be
awarded to twenty 1st rank holders from Government Higher
Secondary schools in rural areas. With this, +2 students who
hold 1st rank can benefit from the advantage of a full
scholarship for the entire duration of their study at the
college. This is also inclusive of their living expense at
the SSN College of Engineering in Chennai. These
scholarships are being offered with a mission of ensuring
world class education to meritorious students across all
economic strata. Over Rs. 22 lakh has been exclusively
allocated per year for the benefit of 1st rank holders
across rural Government Higher Secondary Schools in Tamil
Nadu.
Eligible candidates can get the applications free of cost by
sending their request letter, with complete details and mark
sheets on or before May 26th, 2008 to the Administrative
Officer, SSN Trust, No. 211/95, V.M. Street, Mylapore,
Chennai - 600 004.
In the request letter the candidates must furnish full
details of (i) family background, (ii) proof of having come
first in the school and (iii) Plus TWO examination mark
sheet. On receipt of the above details on or before
26.05.2008, free application form will be sent to the
candidates. The candidates are required to send the
filled-in application form along with necessary documents so
as to reach the SSN Trust on or before 04.06.2008".
Ms. Kala Vijayakumar, President, SSN Institutions said, "as
an institution SSN has recognized and awarded meritorious &
deserving students with various scholarships every year. In
addition to the existing scholarships, we are very happy to
offer full scholarships to twenty 1st rank holders from
rural Government Higher Secondary Schools. This is an
initiative that is aimed to bridging the rural-urban divide
and offering an opportunity for meritorious rural students
to study without worrying about their fees. This is a
reiteration of our commitment to ensure that meritorious and
deserving students are not denied of quality education."
The institution currently offers over 400 scholarships to
meritorious students looking for world class education.
Scholarships are granted based on student performance in
their +2 examinations. For those already pursuing their
education at SSN, scholarships are granted based on their
previous years academic performance. |

| Currently the various categories of
scholarships that are being offered to students include: |
Post graduate Scholarships
In order to promote research and encourage meritorious
students to pursue postgraduate studies, scholarships are
awarded to 50% of students admitted to the PG programs in
Engineering. Scholarships are offered for all round
performance and performance in sports. Students with GATE
score of 90% and above will also be eligible for full
scholarships.
Merit Scholarship
Scholarships are awarded to meritorious students, based on
the academic performance at the qualifying exam for freshers,
and in the case of senior students, the performance during
the previous year. The scholarship offers a waiver of
tuition fees, free hostel stay and boarding / grant towards
living expenses and an allowance for books. All the
Engineering, MBA, and MCA programs at the institution are
covered under the scholarship program.
Merit-Cum-Means Scholarship
Every academic year, several scholarships are awarded on the
criteria of merit-cum-means. The scholarship offers waiver
of tuition fees, provides free hostel stay and
boarding/grant towards living expenses and an allowance for
books. Academic performance and demonstrated economic need
are the key criteria for this scholarship.
Waiver of Tuition Fee - First year students of the college
who secure the highest marks in the +2 examinations have
their entire tuition fees waived for the first academic
year. Similarly, senior students are offered scholarships on
the basis of their previous year's academic performance.
Walk-in-Walk-out Scholarships
A top ten rank holders of any State or Central Board
Examination at the +2 equivalent level are entitled to
pursue the B.E degree at SSN college of Engineering
absolutely free of cost. In order to promote social equity
and justice the toppers from rural government higher
secondary schools are given direct admission to U.G programs
with full scholarship for the whole duration of the course.
Sports Scholarships
Sports scholarships are also awarded to students with an
outstanding record in Sports. Typically, students who have
represented the State at National Level competitions
conducted by accredited Sports Boards are eligible. |
