• Ms. T. Shanmugapriya and Ms. K. Lakshmi, Lecturers, Dept. of IT, participated in the Faculty Development Program – Java, organized by NASSCOM and Sun Microsystems at Alpha Engineering College from 16.4.2007 to 20.4.2007.

• Mr.I.Joe Louis Paul (SL/IT) attended a Two-Day Workshop on "Research Challenges in Wireless and Optical Communication Networks" at College of Engineering,Guindy, Anna University Chennai during March 30-31, 2007.

• SSN Forum for Information Networking and Security (FINS) with membership from faculty and students of IT Department was inaugurated by Mr. Ravikant, Senior Research Associate, SETS, Chennai, with the motto: For Inspiring and Navigating Security Research, on  2^nd March 2007. The forum is chaired by HOD-IT and coordinated by Mr. U. Thiruvaazhi, Asst. Prof. IT Dept. Ms.K.Lakshmi, Lecturer IT, is the Treasurer of the Forum.

• IT Department, with its newly formed FINS and AIT, organized a “Live Workshop on Networking, Ethical Hacking and Information Security” as an inaugural event of the Forum, from  2^nd to 4^th March 2007. This workshop was attended by around 200 participants (194 registered) with approx. 50% from SSN and rest from other institutions around Chennai.(both students and a few industry professionals)

• The workshop was coordinated by Dr. J. Raja, HOD-IT and Mr. U Thiruvaazhi, Asst. Professor, IT Dept.

• Mr. U. Thiruvaazhi, Asst. Prof., IT Dept. participated in the “National Conference on Cyber Security”, jointly organized by Amrita University, IEEE and CSI at Bangalore on 8^th to 10^th March 2007.

• Mr. K. K. Thyagharajan, Prof, and Mr. Rajkumar, Lecturer, both from IT Dept. attended a workshop titled “Research on Speech and Image Processing” at Annamalai University, Chidambaram on 10^th & 11^th March 2007.

• Mr. S. Ajith Kumar, Senior Lecturer, IT Dept. presented a paper titled “Role of Accreditation in Knowledge Supply Chain” at a National Conference on Management Science and Practices held at IIT Madras from  9^th to 11^th March 2007.

• A Team of four students of 3^rd year B.Tech IT, guided by Mr. K. K. Thyagharajan, Professor, IT, has been selected to participate in the IEEE Computer Society’s CHC61 (Computer History Web site design Competition) on 22^nd March 2007. The student team comprises Manasa Madhavan, Vasupradha Vasudevan, Aparna Sridar, K.A. Srividhya of III year IT.

• Ms. M. Uma Maheshwari, Lecturer, IT, attended a Live workshop on Adhoc Networks, at MIT Campus, Anna University Chennai on 22^nd and 23^rd March 2007.        

• Ms. A. Kavitha, Senior Lecturer, IT Dept., presented a paper on “Security Model for VPN Router using Network Processor at a National Conference on Computer and Communications at KCG College of Technology, Chennai, on 23^rd and 24^th March, 2007.

• Ms. D. Veena Raja, Lecturer, IT Dept., presented a paper on “Providing initiative for disaster recovery using Grid Computing” at a National Conference on Computer and Communications at KCG College of Technology, Chennai on 23^rd and 24^th March, 2007.

• B. Parthiban and R Pranai Chandran, students of IV Year IT, guided by Mr. I. Joe Louis Paul, Senior Lecturer, IT Dept, presented a paper on “Efficient Image Authentication using Digital Signature” at a National Conference on Computer and Communications at KCG College of Technology, Chennai on 23^rd and 24^th March, 2007.

• Pass percentage of M.E. C&C III-Sem is 100% after revaluation.

• Ms. A. Kavitha , SL /IT presented a paper on “Proposing rule based algorithm for Ternary Cams” at “NATCON-07” held at  Noorul Islam College of Engineering, Kumaracoil on 9.2.07.

• Ms. P.N. Jebarani Sargunar Inaugurated the   National Conference at   Bharath University, Chennai & released the conference proceedings on 15.2.07

• Ms. K. Lakshmi and Ms. T. Shanmugapriya, L/IT presented a paper on “Design consideration to evade site channel attacks in Cryptography systems” at “NCRTAC-07” held at Bharath University, Chennai-73 on 15.2.07.

• Anna University Results was declared on 16.2.07. The results for the respective  classes are:

• Mr. U. Thiruvaazhi, AP, IT Dept., presented a lecture on “Cyber Threats: Assessment & Protection” on the annual inaugural function of ISTE Chapter at SSN Institutions on 20^th January 2007.

• A paper authored by Mr. C. Umapathy and Dr. J. Raja, Prof & Head IT - titled “ A Prefetching Algorithm for Improving Web Cache Performance” was published in the Journal of Applied Sciences, 6(19), pp 3122-3127 on December 2006.

• Mr. S. Rajkumar(L/IT) and Mr.I.Joe Louis Paul (SL/IT) presented a paper entitled “A Novel Approach for the Recovery of ill Conditioned Color Images Using Trilateral Filtering” in the Proceedings of the Sixth National Conference on Convergence of Computer and Information Engineering (NCCCIE’06) during December 22-23, 2006 at PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore.

• Under the guidance of Mr. S. Ajith Kumar, Sr. Lecturer, IT, a Team comprising Allen Pradeep, Avinash and Dinesh Kumar participated in the on sight ACM-ICPC (International Collegieate Programming Contest), Asia Region  Coimbatore held at Amrita Institutions on 16^th and 17^th December 2006.

• Mr. U. Thiruvaazhi, Asst. Professor, IT, attended the International Conference on Cryptology – Indocrypt 2006, at Kolkata, organized by Cryptology Research Society of India from 10^th to 13^th December 2006.

• Ms. A. Kavitha, Sr. Lecturer, IT and Ms. D. Veena Raja, Lecturer, IT, attended a one day workshop on “SPSS package for Research Analysis”. This event was sponsored by TEQIP-CEG and organized jointly by Department of Computer Science and Engineering and Ramanujan Computing Centre, CEG, Anna University, Chennai on 8^th December 2006.

• A project titled “Adaptive Content creation for personalized e-learning services has been selected under ‘Students Prjects Scheme – 2006-07’ by TamilNadu State Council for Science and Technology. This project is guided by Mr. K.K. Thyagarajan, Professor, IT and done by Ms. Ratnamanjari Nayak, ME (C&C) Final Year Student.

• Mr. K.K. Thyagarajan, Professor, IT, attended a two week AU- FDP on “XML and Web Services” at Rajalakshmi Engineering College, Chennai from 4^th to 16^th December 2006.

• Mr. U. Thiruvaazhi, Asst. Professor, IT, attended the International Conference on Information Security and Computer Forensics (ICSF2006) and the pre-conference workshop on “Attacks and Counter Measures” organized by SRM University, Chennai from 4^th to 9^th December 2006.

• Ms. K. Lakshmi, Lecturer, IT, attended the live workshop on “Attacks and Counter Measures”, organized by SRM University, Chennai on 4^th and  5^th December 2006.

• A  workshop on Recent Trends in Multimedia Programming was conducted by IT Department from 5^th to 7^th October 2006 , coordinated by Mr. K. K. Thyagarajan, A.P IT Dept. This program was co-sponsored by Tamilnadu State Council for Science and Technology and National Council for Science and Technology.

• Ms. J. Malini, Lecturer, IT Department attended a workshop on Bioinformatics at Thiagarajar Engineering College on 29th and 30th September 2006.

• Mr. S. Ajith Kumar, Senior Lecturer, IT Department attended a workshop on IBM Technologies at Crescent Engineering College, Chennai on 21st and 22nd September 2006.

• Mr. I. Joe Louis Paul, Senior Lecturer, IT Department attended a workshop on "Entrepreneurship" at M.O.P Vaishnav College for Women, Chennai on 16th September 2006 organized by The National Entrepreneurship Network (NEN).

• A Guest Lecture on “Cyber Security” was organized by IT department for all final year students of IT, CSE and ECE. The lecture was by Prof. Nasir Memon of  Department of Computer Science, Polytechnic University, Brooklyn, New York on 29^th August 2006.

• The “Association of Information Technologists” activities for this academic year were formally inaugurated by Mr. Chris Lippens, currently heading ValueSource Technologies, India on 11^th August 2006.

• A paper titled  “Verification Process in Education Supply Chain Management”  was presented by Mr. S. Ajith Kumar, Sr. Lecturer, IT Department at ILSCM 2006 "Third International Conference on Logistics and Supply Chain Management", held at PSG Tech, Coimbatore – 641 004 during  August   2 – 4 2006.       

• The Anna University examination results have been declared and the pass percentage of IT students is as follows:

                                   II Semester  - 89.89%

                                   IV Semester - 84.54%

                                   VI Semester - 88.17%
 

• NBA Mock Auditing Team of SSN Institutions inspected IT Department for assessing our preparedness for NBA on 28.7.2006.

• A two day workshop on “Engineering Web Services using .NET” was convened by Dr.J.Raja, HOD-IT and coordinated by Mr.S.Ajith Kumar and Mr. I . Joe Louis Paul, Sr.Lecturers, IT Department on 21.7.2006 & 22.7.2006. Four Faculty members of IT Department namely, Ms. Sweetlin Hemalatha , Ms. T. Sree Sharmila, Ms.P. Vasuki and Ms. K. Lakshmi attended the workshop from within IT Department.

• Dr.J.Raja, HOD-IT, attended a workshop on Sensor Networks at Velmmal Engineering College conducted on 20.7.2006 & 21.7.2006.

• Mr. U. Thiruvaazhi, Sr. Lecturer, IT, attended NASSCOM “HR Summit 2006” at Chennai on 19.7.2006.

• Mr.K.K.Thyagarajan, Asst.Prof., IT, has submitted his Ph.D Synopsis to Anna University on 12.7.2006.

• Dr.P.Seethalakshmi, Prof, IT, attended a UGC Sensitization workshop on “ Capacity Building for women managers in Higher Education”, conducted by Women Empowerment Cell at Anna University from 10.7.2006 to 14.7.2006.

• Ms. Sweetlin Hemalatha, Lecturer, IT, presented a paper titled “Image Indexing and Retrieval using Shape Prototypes” in a National Conference at PSG Tech. Coimbatore conducted on July 7^th & 8^th 2006.

• The eighth semester examination results have been declared and the pass percentage of IT students is 97.87%.
