Academic Year 2005-2006

 

• A research paper on "Optimal Buffering Requirement Analysis for Jitter-free Variable Bit rate Video Streaming" was published by Mr.K.K.Thyagharajan, Asst.Professor, IT in the international journal of Computer Systems Science and Engineering, UK, Vol. 21, No. 3, 2006, p.p. 161-171 on 26.05.2006.

• A research paper on "An Effective Transmission and Browsing Methodology for Streaming Video" was published by Mr.K.K.Thyagharajan, Asst.Professor, IT in the journal of Computer Science, Vol. 2 No. 4 p.p. 326-332, 2006 on 20.05.2006.

• Dr.J.Raja, HOD-IT, Dr.P.Seethalakshmi, Prof. IT and Mr.K.K.Thyagharajan, Asst.Professor, IT presented their project proposals to the SSN Research Advisory Committee on 18.05.2006.

• The department has received a sum of Rs. 20,000/- on 09.05.2006 as the financial assistance to conduct the "Workshop on Multimedia Programming" Coordinated by Mr.K.K.Thyagharajan, Asst.Prof., IT,  from Tamilnadu State Council for Science and Technology, Chennai-25.

• Ms.P.Vasuki, Sr. Lecturer, IT, attended a Web Conference on "Cell Processor" at HCL Technologies, Chennai on 24th April 2006.

• A paper titled "An Enhanced Routing Protocol for Video Over  Mobile Adhoc Networks"" authored by Dr.P.Seethalakshmi, Prof. IT , has been accepted for publication in an International Journal in April 2006.

• A paper titled "Efficient Bandwidth Management Using Embedded Network Processor For Video Over Wireless Networks" authored by Dr.P.Seethalakshmi, Prof. IT was published in an International Journal in April 2006.

• A paper titled "Video Summarization using FP-Tree" was presented by Mr.K.K.Thyagarajan, Asst.Prof., IT, and published in the proceedings of the National Conference- "Vision-06"on High Performance Computing on 6th April 2006.

• Mr.K.K.Thyagarajan, Asst.Prof., IT, attended a workshop on "Animations and Games Development"-Animator'06 conducted by Leadership Learning Center of SSNSoMCA in association with Redoctane Technologies Pvt. Ltd., from 3rd to 5th April 2006.

• The odd semester university examination re-valuation results have been declared and the pass percentage of IT students has improved as follows : Final Years- 97.87%, Third Years- 84.3% and Second Years-80.5%.

• Indicom Software and Services Pvt. Ltd conducted a seminar on .Net Technology and Services on 31st March 2006.

• Mr.V.Sivamurugan, AP, attended a seminar on "Brain Modeling and Supercomputing" conducted by WARAN Research Foundation at Chennai from 28th to 30th March 2006.

• Two proposals were submitted on 16th March 2006 to Tamilnadu State Council for Science and Technology requesting sponsorship for conducting the following workshops during May 2006:

                      1. Workshop on "Recent Trends in Multimedia Programming" by Dr.J. Raja and    

                          Mr.K.K.Thyagarajan

                      2. Workshop on "Engineering Web Services using .NET" by Dr.J. Raja,

                          Mr.S. Ajith Kumar and Mr. I. Joe Louis Paul

 

• A paper presented by I year M.E. student Ms. Ezhilarasi was adjudged as the best paper in the National Conference held on 11th March 2006 at Mepco Schlenk Engineering College, Sivakasi.

• Mr.K.K.Thyagarajan, AP, attended a seminar on "Engineering Education" organized by IEEE India Council at Hindustan College of Engineering on 10th March 2006.

• The odd semester Anna University examination results have been declared for PG and the pass percentage of I semester M.E. (Computer and Communication) is 23.53%.

• The odd semester Anna University examination results have been declared and the pass percentage of IT students is : Final Years - 97.87% , Third Years -61.7% and Second Years - 75.3%.

• A Proposal for conducting Faculty Development Programme on “Network Design, Security and Management” was sent to Anna University Faculty Development Centre by Dr. J. Raja, HOD-IT and Mr.U.Thiruvaazhi, Sr. Lecturer on 24th February.

• A presentation was made to the AICTE RPS committee at New Delhi, on a project titled “Voice Enabled Documentation & Mailing system for handheld devices in Indian Languages” submitted by Dr.C.Aravindan and Ms.P.Vasuki on 21st February.

• Mr.A.Velmurugan, Sr. Lecturer, attended the International workshop on Nano-Science and Technology organized jointly by Anna University and ICTP, Italy, from February 13th to 17th.

• Ms. D. Veena, Lecturer, presented a paper on “Supporting Aspect Oriented Software Development with Concern Manipulation Environment” at the second National Conference Webtops-06 organized by the Jaya Engineering College at CLRI campus, Adyar, Chennai on  10th February.

• A paper on “Multipath on demand routing based reliable information forwarding in wireless sensor networks” authored by Dr.P.Seethalakshmi, Prof  was presented in the National Conference NCCTCT 2006 at SRM Engineering College on 10th February.

• Ms. T. Sree Sharmila and Mr. M. Raghavendar, Lecturers, attended a 3 day workshop on Java Technologies conducted by Sun Microsystems at Chennai from February 7th to 9th.

• A paper on “Enhanced on demand routing protocol for video over Mobile Adhoc Networks” by  Dr.P.Seethalakshmi, Prof  was accepted for publication in the Research Journal on Communication and  Information Technology.

• Dr.P.Seethalakshmi, Prof, delivered a guest lecture on Multimedia in Networks at the UGC Sponsored refresher course in Recent Advances in Computer Science at Pondicherry University on 7th February.

• Dr.P.Seethalakshmi, Professor, IT is attending a AU- Faculty Development Programme on “XML & Web Services” at CEG from 23rd December to 4th February.

• 75 students from 2nd year IT visited Oracle Pvt. Ltd., Bangalore as part of their educational tour on 30th December.

• A project proposal submitted by the final year students guided by Dr.P.Seethalakshmi, Professor –IT was accepted in principle for Sponsorship on 26th December 2005 by the Tamil Nadu State Council for Science and technology.

• Proposals for conducting two 2day workshops and collaborative research with HCL was submitted to Mrs. Kala Vijayakumar, President, SSN Institutions on 20th December.

• NBA Mock Team inspected the department and the college on 19th December.

• NBA internal audit was done through a meeting convened by HOD on 17th December.

• Three student teams from IT Department with Mr. A.Velmurugan, Sr. Lecturer- IT as their mentor, participated in the online entry level ACM- International Collegiate Programming Contest on 11th and 12th December 2005, sponsored by IBM for the Asia Region. One team got qualified in the finals held at Amrita Deemed University and secured 34th place out of the short listed 48 Teams.

• The department submitted few project proposals to HCL and Key areas and expertise available was identified and informed to HCL on 11th December.

• Mr.U.Thiruvaazhi, Sr. Lecturer, IT , attended the International Conference on Information Security, held at Pondicherry Engineering College, Pondicherry, from 7th to 9th December 2005.

• Mr. I. Joe Louis Paul, Faculty Member of IT Department, has been sponsored to attend UGC reference course on “.Net Technology” at SRM Deemed University, from 21st November to 10th December 2005.

• Mr. K. Lakshmi, Faculty Member of IT Department, attended a FDP in Natural Language Processing at Kongu Engineering College, Perundurai, from 21st November to 3rd December 2005.

• Ms. N. Sripriya, Faculty Member of IT Department, has been sponsored to attend  UGC course on “Network Security” at SRM Deemed University, from 14th November to 3rd December 2005.

• The Department conducted Information Technology Training Program for Self Help Group Women of  Kanchipuram district to Information KIOSK, coordinated by Dr.P.Seethalakshmi from 7th to 19th of November 2005.

• “A DAY IN SSNCE” was organized for ELSHADAI Orphanage School, Padur by the WEC in October 2005.

• Dr. P.Seethalakshmi, Prof, IT Dept., Coordinator for WEC attended a meeting at Kanchipuram Collectorate office for selecting Women for SHG Training in October 2005.

• A project titled “Voice Enabled Documentation & Mailling system for handheld devices in Indian Languages” has been submitted by Dr.C.Aravindan and Ms.P.Vasuki under RPS to AICTE in October 2005.

• A Guest Lecture on Advanced Digital Signal Processing was delivered to M.E. Computer and Communication Students by Dr. Kumaravel of CEG, Anna University in October 2005.

• Mr. K.K.Thyagarajan A.P., IT Department delivered an invited lecture on Multimedia Streaming in PGP Engineering College, Namakkal as part of their National Conference Proceedings in October 2005.

• “ConVerita” a National Level Technical Symposium was conducted by Association of Information Technologists in September 2005.

• Women Empowerment Cell Started functioning at SSNCE. Dr. P.Seethalakshmi was nominated as the Coordinator. Proposals for conducting various activities has been sent to SSN Trust in September 2005.

• Ms. P.Vasuki and Ms. Shanmugapriya, Faculty members of IT Department, attended one day workshop on “ Building Skills of SHG Women in Establishing Information Kiosks”, conducted by Centre for Women Empowerment, Anna University in September 2005.

• Mr. I. Joe Louis Paul, Faculty Member of IT Department, attended one day workshop on “ Microsoft .NET”, conducted by Indicom Software & Services, held at Shree Motilal Fomra Institute of Technology, Chennai on September 24, 2005.

• Mr. Srikarthick of Final Year IT won the Inter-Zonal Squash Championship held at SSNCE in September 2005. He was also selected for the Anna University Squash Team.

• The following projects guided by Dr. P.Seethalakshmi has been submitted under “students project proposal” scheme to Tamil Nadu State Council for Science and Technology in September 2005.

• Dr. P. Seethalakshmi, Prof, IT Department has sent a proposal to AICTE to start Centre for Industry Institute Partnership at SSNCE in September 2005.


• Project Work on the following titles is being carried out under the guidance of  Dr.J Raja, HOD-IT and Dr. P.Seethalakshmi, Prof, IT in  collaboration with Corporation of Chennai.

  • Web based Revenue Management System for Corporation of Chennai

  • Project Management System for Chennai Corporation

• A Project Work titled "Intelligent Information Retrieval for Crime Record Management System" is being carried out for the Tamilnadu Police Department, guided by Dr.J Raja, HOD-IT and Dr.P.Seethalakshmi.

• The following two projects guided by Mr.K.K.Thyagarajan has been submitted under “students project proposal” scheme to Tamilnadu State Council for Science and Technology in August 2005.

  • "A Generalized Model for Interactive Virtual Tour” by Furzana P.M and Kamakshi. S.

  • “A Colloborative Communication Tool with Streaming Video for e-Learning" by Gowri K.P.P & Kavitha Subramanian

•  Mr.K.K.Thyagarajan’s paper on “Optimal Buffer Requirement Analysis for Jitter free Variable Bit Rate Video Streaming” has been accepted for publication in the “International Journal of Computer Systems Science and Engineering” published by CRL publishers Ltd in August 2005.

• A project on “Remote Method Invocation in Mobile Networks with Object Caching” guided by  Dr. P.Seethalakshmi and done by S.Bhuvaneshwari, R.Leelavathy and A.Muthupriyadarshini has been awarded the “Best Project Award for the year 2004-05 by Tamil Nadu State Council for Science and Technology in August 2005.

• Dr. P. Seethalakshmi submitted a proposal for conducting AU sponsored FDP on “Component Based Technologies” to Centre for Faculty Development, Anna University in August 2005.

• I Batch of M.E. in Computer and Communication started in the Department of IT on 27th July 2005.

• Faculty members of IT department Dr. P. Seethalakshmi, Mr. Joseph Michael Jerard, Ms.M.G.Kavitha, Mr.C.Balamurugan handled training classes for HCL Trainees recruited this year. This program is coordinated by Dr. P. Seethalakshmi, Prof, IT Department in June 2005.

• Arjun V.S. of last IV Year IT and Mayur M & Karthick S of current 7th Semester IT have been selected to participate in the 6th IEEE Conputer Science Design Contest in Washington D.C, U.S.A. This project is guided by Dr. V.Seshadri in June 2005.

• Faculty members of IT department Dr. P. Seethalakshmi, Mr. Joseph Michael Jerard, Ms. M.G. Kavitha, Mr.    C. Balamurugan handled training classes for HCL trainees recruited this year. This program is co-ordinated by Dr. P. Seethalakshmi, Prof, IT Department in June, 2005.
