One of the highlights of the department is ‘The SSN Creative Writing Contest’ which comprises ‘The SSN Fiction Prize’ and ‘The SSN Poetry Prize.’ The Dept launched the first SSN Creative Writing Contest in July 2010 with a view to inculcating the art of effective writing among the students of SSN. Simultaneous to this venture, the department organizes ‘The SSN Best Speaker Contest’ to cull out public and professional student-speakers of high caliber from SSN.
Recognized as trainees by the British Council for training candidates to take their Business English Certificate (BEC) from Cambridge University, the faculty members help students acquire the LSRW skills for communication, critical thinking and interpersonal relationships. Involved at present in research in the areas of English Language Teaching (ELT) and Indian Literature, the faculty has presented papers at national and international conferences and published their research findings in journals. The Department hopes to evolve as a Centre for Research in ELT (English Language Teaching).
