The Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) was established in the year 1996 with the mission to educate students from all over India and other countries, including those from rural areas, so that they become enlightened individuals, improving the living standards of their Families, Industry and Society.

                CSE shares the mission and vision of the institute in imparting high quality education to the students. First, it is ensured that the student perceives the computer fundamentals thoroughly. Besides fulfilling the requirements of the syllabus prescribed by the University, the program offers students the opportunity to work on diverse hardware and software platforms.

                The Department, accredited by NBA (National Board of Accreditation) in the year 2003, has organized three AICTE-ISTE Short Term Training Programmes, funded by the AICTE and three Faculty Development Programmes sponsored by Anna University as well as one International Conference with all the departments of SSN College of Engineering. It has organized a national conference on “Medical Informatics” funded by the management and has been organizing many symposia, guest lectures and CSI & ISTE student Chapters.
The Department is well equipped with 10 diversified laboratories including a dedicated laboratory for the Post-Graduate students installed with a variety of software catering the need of the students and covering the curriculum specified by the affiliated University. The laboratories include Operating System and Networking Lab, Systems Programming Lab, Software Engineering Lab, Windows Programming Lab, Multimedia and Graphics Lab, Java Technology Lab, Hardware Lab I, Hardware Lab II, Post-Graduate (PG) Lab and High Performance Computing Lab.

              To conduct special seminars covering latest developments and trends in the field of Computer Science, a fully equipped Seminar Hall with seating capacity of 120 is attached with the department. The equipments cover 10 Over Head Projector, 3 LCD projectors, a dedicated laptop, 29” Color Television and a Public Addressing System.

              The department library located in a dedicated and spacious room has well over 1000 books covering a wide range of subjects and several Journals that include ACM Transactions on Database Systems, Software Engineering and Methodology, Operating Systems and Programming Languages, ACM Computing Surveys, International Journal for Neural Systems and Computational Intelligence and Applications, Software Engineering notes, Operating System review, Computer Communication review and Computer Architecture news.

               Focusing on research, the Post-Graduate students actively involve in research across various areas of Computer Science. As part of the curriculum they also periodically publish their work in National and International Conferences. The department has submitted a proposal to the AICTE for grants to conduct research on Speech Recognition in Indian Languages. HCL Technologies has also sanctioned a research project dealing with tool development for quality evaluation of Software System Requirements.

             For collaboration, the CSE department also maintains an Intranet based on Twiki implementation. CSE Intranet Wiki hosts Department Profile, Infrastructure, Faculty Profile, Students Profile, Academic Activities, Department Circulars, College Circulars, etc. In Academic Activities, staff members are providing the information about the subjects they are handling which includes Syllabus, Lesson Plan, References and Assignments. Students Profile contains details about class committee meetings, Attendance and other essentials.

            Expanding the teaching and learning process, the department is ISO9001 certified and also accredited by the National Board of Accreditation. Unit Tests are conducted once a month and the students are counseled and motivated to bring out their best performance. Feedback is obtained regularly from the students. Staff are appraised by the students, self, Head of the Department and the Head of the Institution.
