One Day Workshop on Recent Advances in Pollution Control was organized by the department, on 27th January 2010. The details are as follows: Coordinators: Mr.P.Senthilkumar & Mr.K.Sathish kumar. Principal presided over the function. Dr.Ligy Philip, Professor Environmental and water resources engineering division, Dr.G.Sekaran, Scientist F and Head, Environmental Technology, Dr.Kurian Joseph, Asst professor, Centre for environmental studies and Dr.C.S. Balasubramanian, Retired joint general manager(Technical), Madras Fertilizer Limited, Chennai delivered the technical lectures. Participants from various colleges and students well attended the workshop.
Second year and third year students went on Industrial tour to Bangalore, Mysore, Coorg, and visited Bhuruka Gases Ltd., Bangalore, during 7 – 9 January 2010.
Shri. Chetak, Managing Director from I Think Therefore I can, Personality development organization, Bangalore delivered a lecture on “Elevator pitch and Networking Skills”, on 30th September 2010.
CHEMICZNA – 09 – The National Level technical Symposium of our Department was conducted successfully on 2nd September 2009. Mr.Satyanand Chirravuri.S , Manager, Orchid pharmaceutical Ltd., inaugurated the symposium.
DRDO sponsored workshop on Nanotechnology was conducted by the department successfully during 20 – 21 August 2009. The details are as follows: The vent was inaugurated by Dr.R.Nagarajan, Professor, Chemical Engineering, IITM. Dr.P.Ramasamy, Dean Research presides over the function, Dr.K.Ramakrishnan gave the introductory address. Dr.P.Selvam, IITM, Dr.D.Arivuoli, Anna University, D.K.S.Dhathathreyan,– Centre for fuel cell technology, Department of Science and Technology, Govt of India, Dr.M.Balasubramanian, IITM, Dr.B.Nedumaran, SVCE, Dr.Ramprabhu, IITM delivered the lecture on Nanotechnology. Dr.V.Jaikumar – Coordinator gave the vote of thanks. 64 participants participated from various institutions.

Mr.K.Sathish kumar presented a paper titled “Drug release studies of gold nano particles decorated PLA-Co-EC nanoparticles” at World Conference on Nanoparticles and Drug Delivery, conducted by Holistic Institute of Medical Sciences, Kottayam, Kerala, during 16-18 April 2010.
Dr.K.Ramakrishnan attended the UGC sponsored workshop on “Recent Trends in Crystal Growth”, organized by Anna University, Chennai, on 30th March 2010.
Dr.M.Subramanian attended and presented a paper titled “Rural Electrification Technologies for North-Eastern India” at National Conference on Renewable Energy 2010, Department of Energy, Tezpur University, Assam, India, 23-25 March 2010.
Mr.K.Sathish Kumar and Mr.P.Senthil Kumar presented a paper titled Drug Delivery Studies on Gold Nanoparticles and decorated PLA – Co – PEG co polymer at fourth national seminar on Biotech institute – industry interaction ( BIII – 10) at Bannari Amman Institute of Technology, Stahyamangalam, Erode District, 19-20 February 2010.
Mr.K.Sathish Kumar and Mr.P.Senthil Kumar published a paper titled “ Bael Tree Leaves as a Natural Adsorbent for the removal of Zinc (II) ions from industrial effluents” in Adsorption science and technology, 2009, volume 27, Number 5.
Dr.M.Subramanian delivered refresher courses on Fluid Mechanics and Thermodynamics to Energy Management Trainees of National Productivity Council, Chennai during 11-22 January 2010.
Mr.D.Gnanaprakash presented a paper titled “Evaluation of solubility of cinnamic acid using hydrotopes by response surface method” at CHEMCON 2009, organized by IIChE in Andhra University during 27-30 December 2009.
Mr.P.Senthil Kumar presented a paper titled “Dye removal from wastewater using silver wood saw dust activated carbon” in international conference on Advances in Mechanical and Building Sciences in the 3rd millennium ICAMB 2009, conducted by VIT university, Vellore during December 14-16, 2009.
Dr.K.Ramakrishnana, HOD, sent a technical paper to Bepress international journals.
Dr.M.Subramanian attended the AICTE sponsored summer school on “Sustainable Environmental Planning” during 30th Nov – 4th Dec 2009 at Department of Civil Engineering, Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology (SVNIT), Surat.
Mrs.R.Pushpalatha and Ms.B.Chitra attended a National Workshop on Mathematical Softwares conducted by SRM University, Chennai, during 22-23 October 2010.
Dr.M.Subramanian and Mr.P. Senthil Kumar attended One Day Workshop on “Environmental Management”, organized by National Institute of Technical Teachers Training and Research, Chennai, on 26th June 2009.
Dr.M.Subramanian attended the One Day Workshops on Adoption of energy efficient process technologies & practices and implementation of Energy Conservation Act 2001 in Dairy Sector and Buildings sector, organized by Bureau of Energy Efficiency, at Central Power Research Institute, Bangalore, during 11-12 June 2009.

Final year students, Ms.Shreya and Ms.Saranya presented a paper and got first prize for the paper titled “Heterogeneous photo catalytic degradation of reactive orange dye” in IIT – Bombay, on 8th March 2010.
Ms.Senthamari and Ms. Niranhana of final year presented a paper and won first prize for paper titled “Removal of Congo red from aqueous solution using novel adsorbent at AC college of Technology, Anna University, Chennai, on 26th February 2010.
Ms.Senthamari and Ms.Niranjana of final year presented a paper and won first prize for the paper titled Removal of congo red dye from aqueous solution using equilibrium and kinetic approach in Adhiprasakthi Engineering College, on 23rd February 2010.
Ms.Vaishnavi Jayaraman and Ms.Prabha of III year Chemical Engineering students presented a technical paper and won first prize for the paper on “Nanomaterials and targeted drug delivery system” at IIT – Khargapur.
Second year student Vignesh R participated the Neeya Nana Programme in Vijay TV, on 20th January 2010.
Ms.Nirupa.R and Ms.Smruthi Karthikeyan won second prize in national level technical symposium held at Vels University, on 8th September 2009.
Third Year Chemical Engineering Students Ms.Lakshmi Nagarajan and Ms.V.Dushyanthi presented a Paper titled Nanotechnology in Pansophy - a National level technical symposium conducted by SVCE, Sriperumbudur and won Ist Prize. Mr.Ashwin Narayanan.T.G and Karshick Sarathy participated in Quiz Programme and won II Prize. 15 third year students participated in various events of Pansophy.
