Dr. Deepesh C, MA (Linguistics), MA (English) , PhD
Deepesh Chandrasekharan taught English in reputed educational institutions in Delhi and Doha-Qatar for eleven years before taking up full-time PhD in English Language Education (ELE) at the renowned English and Foreign Languages University (EFL-U), Hyderabad. His PhD looks at raising learners’ Critical Language Awareness (CLA) to improve their language proficiency, especially their writing abilities.
Deepesh has qualified the National Eligibility Test (NET) for lecturership conducted by UGC, in both English (June 2013) and in Linguistics (June 2012). After completing the four-year BAEd programme at the distinguished Regional Institute of Education (RIE), Mysore with the University third rank, he did an MA each in Linguistics (Second rank, JNU, New Delhi) and English (University of Madras).
He has five publications to his credit, including a chapter in a scholarly book, and has presented research papers on English language teaching (ELT) at several international and national conferences. He has also conducted several teacher-training workshops in general English and in ELT for practising teachers in schools across Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Kerala for leading school textbook publishing houses. He has also taught on the proficiency courses offered by the EFL-U at its Hyderabad and Malappuram (Kerala) campuses.
His areas of academic interest are multilingualism, critical pedagogy, language and identity, language politics, testing and evaluation, language and power, gender studies, empowerment of the marginalised, and the teaching of English in disadvantaged contexts.
