Dr. G.Anandha babu completed M.Sc in Physics from School of Physics, Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirappalli. He obtained his Ph.D. in Crystal Growth from Anna University, Chennai, in January 2010.

His areas of specialization are Growth and Characterization of I-III-VI2 and Chalcogenide Single Crystals for IR NLO Applications, Growth and Characterization of Organic NLO Single Crystals for laser Applications. He was one of the team members who grew the country’s first 8 mm diameter and 10 cm length AgGaSe2 single crystal. During his Ph.D. work, he has done parts of his research work in association with various National/University laboratories. He was awarded SSN Junior Research Fellowship and later he moved to DAE-BRNS project “Growth of I-III-VI2 Single Crystals for IR applications and radiation detectors” during the course of his Ph.D. programme. After Ph.D. he was awarded “Research Associate” position in a DRDO project. He developed melt growth laboratory to grow single crystals from Bridgman in SSN College of Engineering.

He has also grown crystals from vapor. He is the Co-Principal Investigator of a DST crystal growth project. He has to his credit 21 research papers in international journals. As an appreciation of his commendable work, he has received financial assistance to attend the “4th Asian conference on Crystal Growth and Crystal Technology (CGCT-4)” in Tohoku University, Sendai, Japan from Department of Science & Technology (DST) and Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR). He also has received financial assistance to attend the “14th International Summer School on Crystal Growth (ISSCG-14)”, Dalian, China and “16th International Conference on Crystal Growth (ICCG-16)” Beijing, China from Tamilnadu State Council for Science and Technology.

He has received four Best paper awards from the Indian Science Congress Association (ISCA) in the various “National conferences on Crystal Growth”. He has been recognized as guide for Ph.D. programme by Anna University Chennai and Anna University of Technology, Chennai. He is supervising 3 Ph.D research scholars. He is a life member in the Indian Association of Crystal Growth.
