Dr.S.Thiruvenkataswami, professor in the department of English, has taught English in institutes of international repute for 29 years and 3 years in an MNC in the area of e Learning.

He did his BA and MA in English Literature at St. Joseph’s College Trichy; M.Phil at the Department of English, Madras University; PGCTE and PGDTE (courses in teaching of English) from EFLU (former CIEFL), Hyderabad; diploma in distance education, DDE from IGNOU; MA -TEFL from the University of Birmingham, UK under a scholarship from ODA, External Affairs Ministry, UK and GOI and Ph.D from Kakatiya University, Warangal.

He taught at NIT Warangal for 25 years and prior to that he taught for small stint of 3 years and 1 year at Loyola College, Chennai and IIT Madras. He also worked in the area of e Learning at Agnite Educational Ltd, Chennai for 3 years. He is a member of the external faculty of EFLU, Hyderabad since 1989.

During his long tenure at NIT Warangal, he held the positions of Professor and Head of the Department, PRO, Member of the Senate, Member of the Board of Studies, Warden of Hostels, Editor documents pertaining to the institute and the students ( Institute Profile, Annual Reports , Students’ Magazine; Newsletters), Student Counsellor, and a faculty advisor for several literary and cultural activities.

He has designed and taught several ESP (English for specific purposes) courses. Some of them are English for Engineering, Management, Air Traffic Controllers, Music, Researchers, unemployed graduates etc., He was a mentor for the module on Soft Skills for MSIT, offered by APSCHE and Carnegie Melon University (2001-2004). His areas of expertise are English Language Teaching, Testing, Curriculum Development, Teacher Training, Corporate Training, Distance Education and e Learning

He guides research in areas related to English Language Teaching. So far one scholar has obtained Ph.D under his guidance and another Scholar is about to submit his thesis in June 2012 at NIT Warangal


He has published 8 papers in Journals, 6 books, more than 100 papers in conferences, and reviewed ‘New Business Exams Course’ (Level1) Cambridge University Press, London (2005). Besides, he has published e learning modules on Communication Skills; Reading, Speaking, Listening and Writing skills; Soft Skills; and Life Skills through several e learning portals for Agnite Education Ltd.,

Current Interest:

His current interests are Curriculum Development for courses in ESP, faculty development, testing and inculcating leadership traits in students.
