About the Department

The department of English was founded in the year 1996 alongside the inception of this college. The department has highly qualified faculty and excellent infrastructure conducive to excellence in the field of English Language Teaching.

Most of the faculty hold doctoral degrees and specialized qualifications in English Language Teaching (ELT) and Literature from institute of repute in India and abroad.

The department has a well equipped Language Lab in an air-conditioned environment. It has adequate software to provide training to students in speaking, listening, reading and writing skills.

The department offers two courses at the first year level, namely,  Technical English I and II and another course, ‘Communications Skills Laboratory’ during the third year to B. E. / B.Tech students as per the curriculum of Anna University.

Apart from offering these regular courses, the department has several initiatives to promote the communication skills and personality development of the students. It provides guidance and support to several literary events through several student activity clubs such as ‘literary club’, ‘theatrical club’, and ‘entrepreneurship development club’. These clubs involve in activities such as writing fiction/poems, organizing talks by eminent personalities from varied backgrounds, putting up plays, speaking competitions, and conducting events for the benefit of students to improve their personality traits as well as communication skills.

In 2013, the department has launched a yearlong training in communication skills for the benefit of all the first year students in collaboration with Cambridge English and the British Council. The college is a recognized centre for the conduct of Cambridge Exams.

The department has developed a good rapport with the British Council Division of India, Airports Authority of India, and United States Education Foundation in India, KMMusical Conservatory, Cambridge English and others
